Painting: “Autumn” by Frederick Carl Frieseke (USA, 1874-1939)AUTUMNAL THOUGHTS
Autumn comes for a little while
with crayoned leaves,
and with the wind
they flutter down
to coat the ground –
like a sweater,
to keep earth warm
Getting the Earth ready
for the first snow storm…
Winter’s chill is on the way
and the leaves must fly
so the snow can stay;
for it’s Autumn now,
almost at its end –
soon the naked trees will
sway and the branches bend
Autumn will stretch one last,
sweet time
and then give way
to the Northwind’s rhyme…
