Christina: I Forgive You, Mother

I FORGIVE YOU, MOTHER
(For Roger)

Mother, you were cruel to me,
in many, many ways ~
I worked for your approval
through long years made of days...
Why did you never see me
and how I tried to be so good ~
Why could you never love me
as a mother really should?
The blows you rained upon me
could not compare to words ~
all the names you called me
like, pecking, swooping birds.
I forgive you, mother,
though you say you could care less;
I have found someone to love me
And that is my success.
