Christina: Mourning in Baghdad

MOURNING IN BAGHDAD

Lowered heads
and teary eyes
mark the acknowledgment
of death;
and a soldier sighs
and wonders why
and doesn't want to
say goodbye.

He takes a breath
and straightens up
and goes his way
and never will forget
this day -
this moment and the
thoughts he had
while mourning his friend
in old Baghdad.
