EDWARD THOMAS
(1878-1917)

RAIN

Rain, midnight rain,
nothing but the wild rain -
... and solitude and me...
Here I pray that none
whom I once loved
is dying tonight,
or lying still awake -
Solitary -
listening to the rain.

Written by Edward Thomas - WW1

An English poet, Thomas began his literary career writing essays, travel books, and critical studies. His friendship with Robert Frost, which began in 1912, turned him to writing poetry, primarily on nature themes. His first volume of verse, Six Poems (1916), mostly pastoral verse, was published shortly before he was killed in World War I.
